Ever wonder how various colors of fireworks are produced or why some substances, such as oxygen, are gases at room temperature while others, such as water, are liquids? Or how about why do diamonds and pencil lead have such different properties despite the fact that both are made of carbon? What do all these questions have in common? You guessed it...they can all be answered chemistry. Through a chemical lens we'll be exploring these topics and many more this year in chemistry class.
I'm excited to welcome you to a new school year. We have many wonderful things planned for class this year. In order to benefit the most from this class, you must be committed. Committed to working diligently, committed to accepting academic challenges, and committed to investing in your own learning. Learning chemistry is like learning how to ride a bike. Initially, the ride might be a bit bumpy as things are brand new and it will take time to adjust to the rigor of an advanced course. There will be times when you fall off your bike perhaps when you don't understand a concept right away. Some will have to practice more than others. I'm here to support and coach you along the way, but YOU must get on the bike and ride. I can tell you how to ride the bike a million times or you can watch videos of others riding bikes, but YOU won't learn to ride until you try YOURSELF. So I would like for you to make a commitment to yourself now: accept nothing but your best so YOU can learn to ride that bike.
Many resources are available here on the class website. Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the website and to sign-up for Remind and Google Classroom.
I'm looking forward to a great year together!
